Absolutely brilliant book. Focusses on how a blind faith in religion influences your life and what life may be like without it

So brilliant! I love Orwell! I didn't know if I would like this book, but it was so well written(minus the chapter that was written like a play), that I couldn't stop reading it. Such a great book about losing your faith and trying to find the true meaning of who you are. The ending was sad, but then again so was the ending to 1984. They all can't be happy fairy tale endings I guess....more

Orwell looks into the twisted wreckage of a clergyman's daughter after she returns from a time when she did not know who she was and did things considered unsavory and sinful in the society she returns to. A damning indictment of Victorian times and morality.

Another one of Orwell's books completely capturing the political situation of the time. The story captures the difficulties a woman in her 30s had getting a job - and the different types of jobs she could end up in with different types of societies. Loved it!
