Cracked me up

Great tale but required a degree of perseverance to see it through.

Would've been five if I hadn't've had to read it in four days. 700 pages? Goodness.

The opposite of the modern aesthetic of concise prose. Those candles must have really burned a long time in old England. It's refreshing to read a well-crafted story with no sense of urgency at all, in the best possible sense.

No one reads the classics anymore...this is one of them. Great old english, plenty of expressions no one in your daily life will appreciate. But if you do like the classics, this is a great book once you get into it. The story is a testimony to the fact that 300 or so years isn't much of a cultural gap for fine literature. What was funny and true then, is still funny and often true now.

Very funny. A real page turner despite its length.

I devoted two years of my life to this, and it was almost worth it. Everyone should read it. One day they will.
