A colourful story revolving around the simple yet powerful love the main character has for growing a Black Tulip, the desperation and the pleading he demonstrates to his lover, Rosa, as well as the faithfulness and the great unselfish love of Rosa, who triumphs to rescue him from prison.

Simply amazing. I love tulips but a black one at the time the book is written awed me.

Not the best of Dumas' novels, however I would certainly recommend it. History, politics and romance meant it was a fascinating read. A fairly simple tale made all the better by his ability to tell a story properly: with passion and suspense. The shorter length compared with some of his other novels helps the story to flow better with less distraction to the main plot, which renders it an...more
