One could think Austen is all about romance and impossible love stories. Then he'd be surprised and amused by the irony and the subtle insights of this book. Of course Jane Austen's writing style is out of question and needs no further praise   hide

I found this book delightfully entertaining. Austen deftly shows how the characters' actions and motivations directly contradict their words. Her style is brilliant, contrasting the hypocritical manners of some characters against the puzzled sincerity of the heroine, who takes everyone at their word. Mr Tilney, as the hero, was more fun and witty than I could have imagined from Austen. Georgette Heyer is often compared to Austen, but I think that her style draws more clearly from this novel than from Pride    hide
