Well-researched, clear-eyed look at how the US has increasingly become more imperialistic and militaristic, and more willing to use the military to protect our way national affluence under the guise of "protecting liberty at home and abroad." Bacevich is a conservative who see neo-conservatism as neither.

A must read for anyone who wants an alternative view to the constant pro-war message. Bacevich was a career military man west point grad so he has a unique prospective relative to an anti-war protester. Bacevich advocates for greater citizen involvement in foreign affairs. The author has some very provocative ideas. He provides good insight into how the US got itself into using the military so extensively, and he doesn't blame any one person, President, or party. I highly recommend this book.
