Very good read. Read some Voltaire afterward - All the intro notes were completely different - I wonder if this book will cause some rewrites.

Boy, the art of letter writing these days is not what it used to be. Just goes to show you what you can do with a simple feather pen and parchment! Whoo hoo!

Great book! I love historical fiction, and it was neat to read something written along those lines but to also have it be non-fiction.

History is truly brought to life - Bodanis turned Emilie and Voltaire into real people that I cared about and along the way I accidentally learned a lot about the Enlightenment - I highly recommend this!

Very interesting account of love, science and scholarship in France during the Enlightenment. I wish Emile Du Chatelet was still alive, but I would likely be out of her league in any case :-)

How the hell can I describe the tale of Voltaire and his lover, Emilie du Chatelet? Sex, intrigue, violent death amid the poetry, philosophy and physics is a start.Basically, du Chatelet has long been a historical footnote. But upon closer examination, she proves to be a far sharper thinker, scientist and intellectual than her famous paramour.
