I first read it in high school long ago. It's fascinating look into a medieval woman's life journey.  I reread it annually.

Set a bit earlier than most of Riley's works, but the cast of characters she creates are gleefully human.

I Love all of Judith Merkle Riley's novels. I stumbled upon this one because I was looking for a nice romantic novel, but found a real treasure. I love the vivid descriptions of medieval life. What I love most is the witty, sharp mind of the main character. I can't wait for the next novel.

Witty, smart, compassionate, and just brilliantly fun - the medieval setting was utterly convincing, the characters and dialogue were sparkling, and the twists and turns of the story were surprising but perfect. Can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy!
