You expect a religious experience when everything falls into place, but all you get is a "huh????'. I have to admit, Palace Council is way less "huh????" than Donnie Darko, but it's still a disappointing end. But, it was engaging up to just before the end. Still better than a lot of other novels I have read. I may read some of Carter's other novels since I enjoyed his prose, and that is sonething I appreciate.
