A hidden gem! I particularly love reading "The Ball" and "Snow in Autumn." Never a disappointment picking up a Nemirovsky's book. :)

Much more of a Russian writer writing in French than a true French writer of a later Suite Francaise, Nemirovsky describes with great clarity and warmth the experience of human transformation (from rags to riches, and the other way around through the perils of Russian and Jewish immigration after the Bolshevik revolution) in these early novels. These works are on par with early Nabokov...more
