The story starts with the death of the main character. Her life is described on a set of cassettes using photographs as medium. I found it unlikely, boring and disappointing. The language is not convincing when one considers that the audience is a blind person.
This is very different from the other of Coe's novels I've read - none of the black humour I've come to expect. A melancholy story of mothers and daughters through the generations. Somehow it lacked enough depth and warmth for me to really care though.
