more I love the 44 Scotland Street series, and this (the 2nd one) is perhaps the most heart-warming one of them I have read (I only have the first 3 books so far). The chapters centred around Ramsey and Betty Dumbarton seem to be filler, having little relevance to the rest of the plot, and I found them to be boring. However, the rest of the book is wonderful bedtime reading, especially Bertie's story. I am looking forward to reading the 4th book, which seems set to give Bertie a more central role. A funny, insightful and uplifting account of life in Edinburgh. I would recommend this series to anyone.
