not his best, really the alter ego theme didn't work for me

Took me a long time to get around and read this classic Carey novel. I am very happy that I took the time. Carey really is a master novellist. Phenomenal characters, outstanding story line, truly one of the best.

i couldnt get past the first 30 pages..a bit pretentious and not much story.

i'm a big peter carey fan and Theft doesn't disappoint. Peter Carey is a master novel crafter. I wish it was longer though.

Usually I enjoy Carey novels like traditional page turners.Not this one.

A surprsingly interesting book about a once famous painter who falls in love with a woman whos is stealing the paintings of her ex-husband's father,simply for the love of art. An interesting book which I found surprsingly entertaining considering it's about an artist/painter.He was once famous and well known throughout Sydney,but was in jail for a time and know looks after his retarted brother, Hugh. He meets a woman and they fall in love as she helps him to restablish himself as a painter. Although she is a theif,stealing her ex-husband's, father's paintings(Leibovitz),simply for the love of art.An entertaing and humorous(at times)read which also gives an interesting/accurate take on Australian culture/society.   hide
