He wrote another book about how Proust changed his life. This book--like all his others--will change your thinking about life, opening up new questions and answering concerns about why architecture and consideration of public space matters. Not really a beach read, but a brilliant cross-Europe read.

Alain de Botton is wonderful at elucidating what for most of us remains dense and obscure. This book is architectural art history, and now I understand what is meant by 'neo-classical' or 'gothic' in buildings.One amphorism  quoted which I like is 'that beauty is the promise of happiness'. I am looking at my surroundings in a new light.
