Very poetic. Beautiful scenes. Little connections everywhere. Just relax and enjoy it.

I enjoyed it, once i got over SF being used as a literary device.

I liked everything except the very last page. And even that, I'm still not sure about. Regardless of the ending, the story, the characters, the writing - it's all good.

Fantastic ... lyrical and typical of Ondaatje's voice ... loved it!

Beautiful. I read this just as I discovered an amazing guitarist called Stephan Wrembel who plays locally at Barbes in Brooklyn - doing a Django Reinhardt night. All seemed to fit, summer of Gypsy stuff!

This guy makes washing the dishes feel holy. The last line will stay in my memory for a long time.

Beautiful, evocative, stunning sentence structure. Full of lust, passion, tactile descriptions. I would have given it 5 stars. But at page 193 I was left with an unfinished feeling.
