The Children of Men

One of my favorite books of all time, much better than the movie!

I loved the movie and the book didn't dissapoint, although the movie is different in so many ways I don't think the cover should be a still from the film!

Quite a change of pace for PD James. I enjoyed it. Rather dark.

Incredibly different from the movie, the world James paints is rich and detailed and fascinating. It is also like two books in one. The first half took me 3 weeks to read and lulled towards the end. The second section took me 24 hours to read and barely gives you a moment to breath. It had influenced my writing before I even began to read it and will continue to influence it. The second section took me 24 hours to read and barely gives you a moment to breath. It had influenced my writing before I even began to read it and will continue to influence it. My only qualms about it is that sometimes it gets bogged down in the visual description of setting. I can see reasons for that, wanting to honour England as it is "now" before it dies, but it becomes a nuisance when you are just wanting the plot to go forward. Overall, quite recommended.   hide

The movie is much better than the book, an opinion I don't often have.

Not as good as I had hoped it would be. Good summer read. Not as good as I thought it would be. Fast Read. Disturbing, but good...

I was caught by this dystopian novel. I have not seen the movie, but the book managed to keep me intrigued.

It may have been eclipsed by the excellent film, but this book is worth reading if you liked the film. The book answers alot of questions that the movie never really addresses (such as what to do with an aging population, what could possibly be causing this epidemic) but it takes the story in a very different direction.

Completely and in all ways unlike the movie.
