Quite different from his other genre of suspense/mystery stories. A poignant and sad story told from an interesting point of view.

We had to read this for school and at first I thought it would be good, then I didn't like it a lot and got annoyed by the whole "Nelio will die" thing because we understood the first time he mentioned it.(When he did die though, it was kind of sad and I really didn't expect that) But after re-reading it for the exam after having dealt with everything in it I really liked it...even the I the...more

A wonderful story.  Mankell is a master at drawing the reader in to his main character.  The narrator was not that different from Kurt Wallender.  He had a human face.  A portrait of what life is really like in many areas of Africa.

Not a Wallender story but a thought provoking tale of the dealth of homeless street boy in Mozambique. Beautifully written/ translated

A very well told Story, sadly one can not deny that is close to the normal course of life in some regions of Africa.

Partially this book is so sad, I did not want to carry on reading, simply cruel to your soul. On the other hand, it is absorbing you got to go on reading.

At the end of the day, Henning Mankell is a very good writer and so is this book. He makes you feel what life is really...more

At the end of the day, Henning Mankell is a very good writer and so is this book. He makes you feel what life is really like as an urchin rather than pointing a finger at anybody.

If you like this book, you might want to read another book of Mankell: "Tea bag"   hide
