This is one of my favorite books ever. It is a story of young Wil who wants hunting dogs but has to work very hard to get them. Once he does get them he puts his entire heart and soul into caring for them. It is a coming of age story. It is a story about the value of love and the value of life and how it isn't fair and how people end up being different because of what happens to us and how we are treated just like how we treat each other and our animals. This is one of the best love stories I have ever read.   hide

I've read this every year since third grade; I love this book.

This is the first book that I remember reading and just hiding in my room and crying.
