This cookbook continues to guide me through all kinds of cooking experiments. A recent fresh shelling bean (cranberry bean) gratin recipe was a big hit. The 1-2-3-4 cake, polenta and beet recipes are standards in our home. Whether for a quick meal or a fancy affair, I keep coming back to this book.
alice waters knows good food. her tactic in this book is to describe how to choose, handle, and prepare food. Not so much about specific recipes. I bought a nice cut of fish, followed alice waters' advice, and went to delicious fish heaven.
I love this woman!
This should be the next "Joy of Cooking" - the book everyone gives a new bride.
Except I don't think people do that any more.
Anyway, it really is SIMPLE food - and mighty tasty too.
