Weird book, Chris.

It could have been a more powerful commentary if the author didn't try so hard to totally rip those he felt were in opposition to his own beliefs. No one, really, in this book comes off well at all--the right OR the left. Makes me feel sorry for West Virginia, though.

por ahora un poco bastante parcial, pero es una cara de la moneda que hay que ver

This book is absolute gold. A hilarious look at the expansion of americas working poor, as told by a self confessed redneck.

Interesting read which gives insight into why red states voted the way they do in the post-cold war era despite the fact that it defies logic.

Acerbic wit makes this a fun read. The only negative is that the author is from the working poor class and this does color some of his theories and assumptions which I don't necessarily agree with.

A wonderful book that I could easily relate to. Though I don't originate from rural Virginia, like Bageant the theme of having my feet in two distinct worlds is quite familiar to me. The working man's version of Thomas Frank's What's the Matter with Kansas, and is a superior book in my estimation.

A must-read for those who have never spent time in small-town (especially Southern) America. A glimpse of insight into why some think that left-coast liberals are off their rocker. All too familiar to me, but sympathetic. Pokes a little fun at the liberals also. Fair, insightful, entertaining.
