Nice story. Nothing remarkable.

Good book, but, like many is too long. It has wonderful character development, I truly was interested in what was happening to the widower. I loved the use of language throughout. Percy's words reflected the librarian he was, he spoke so eloquently.

An engaging story about the life of Percy Darling, his family and friends, his community, and his old historic home. The book didn't answer every question I had, but such is life.

I adored Julia Glass' Three Junes, and finally found time to read this latest offering. The title "The Widower's Tale" is a bit of a misnomer because there are many other characters in this novel, each with a story to tell, and somehow these diverse threads weave together to form a compelling read. Personable characters who are good company. The plot is less compelling.

Skip it! I was surprised as I expected to love this. The main character is a retired librarian, but the characters were two dimensional and the dialogue insipid. She won an award for The Three Junes which I haven't read. I'll try it, hoping for better results.

Can you like a book when only one character is appealing? Can you like a book when none of the female characters are appealing? I did, only because Percy was such a great character!

This was a beautifully written book. The story is told through the eyes of many of the various characters, and each voice was real. I think I have another favorite author. Thanks, Venetia, for your recommendation.

Not my favorite from Julia Glass. Characters seemed a tiny bit too contrived and too cute and quirky to be enjoyed with a sound suspension of disbelief. Also, lots and lots of plotlines, some endings I predicted at the very set-up and others left unresolved. Why did Poppy drown? I kept waiting for some great revelation about her death...but it did not appear. What about Clover...are we to...more
