Scholarly and entertaining, this is Geoffrey Robertson's account of the life of John Cooke, the lawyer who handled the case for the prsecution against King Charles 1st. A conscientious, caring and highly professional man, he saw through many of the legal changes which underpin our modern justice system.

Not a big fan of lawyers... but this was gripping. Very detailed about a man who did the right thing at the expense of his life. Nice overview of the era as well.

Amazing insights into how our legal/ parliamentary systems was moulded during the commonwealth by careful and thorough application the Bible to the contemporary issues.
