If I had to pick one fiction book, just one book that I would call my favorite -- which all readers know is just about impossible -- it would be Jennifer Egan's "The Invisible Circus". Evocative, lovely writing about longing, loss, family relationships without being sappy or trite or overly sentimental.  If I had to pick one fiction book, just one book that I would call my favorite -- which all readers know is just about impossible -- it would be Jennifer Egan's "The Invisible Circus". Evocative, lovely writing about longing, loss, family relationships without being sappy or trite or overly sentimental. What first attracted me to this novel was Pat Conroy's comment that it is completely unfair that anyone should be able to write a first novel that is so beautiful and compelling. I love Jennifer Egan, her novels are beautifully written, this one's about a girls journey to track down her sister after she disappeared during a trip to Europe.
