I agreed way too much with this author. And would get so mad at times, while reading this book, I would have to put it down for a couple days to regain emotional balance. But I still consider it a great read.

Dick Meyer first outlines a very long list of things and people who are the causes of our irritation disillusionment and anxiety. This is a very long read and many things may not be very surprising, but it is a rather comprehensive summary. He then goes on to propose solutions to fixing or problems, such as authenticity, and also pluralism in other words getting out head out of your ass and...more

Clever, thought-provoking, and fairly optimistic~ for the most part, I feel like the author just gave voice to many of the frustrating things about our modern culture while encouraging a bit of a vague solution. But then again, isn't the solution ours to uncover anyway?

Interesting read, well-researched, with a lot of other authors one should read. Not sure if he comes to the right solutions or not, though he documents the problems very well.

This book describes the current human condition (U.S. in the millenium) so perfectly. It's straight and honest. Though there are no easy solutions laid-out, in the last chapter the author challenges us to live more authentically, thoughtfully, and unselfishly - so that we may hate us less.

This is the kind of book that everyone needs to read, especially if you deal with the general public every day, and that's basically everyone. He tells it like it is, no sugar-coating here. This is a great read.
