more Ever since the Great Recession really began to hit most Americans, frugality, debt reduction, and a way forward financially has become quite popular.
To that end there is The 60 Minute Money Workout, a book on finances that borrows its structure from the physical fitness community. The idea of the book is to develop a discipline of spending 1 hour a week on financial planning, growing "stronger" as one progresses through the material. Each hour is broken up into sessions-- "warm up" (5 minutes of affirmation), "strength training" (10 minutes of goal setting for the exercise), "cardio burn" (20 minutes of making decisions toward the goal), measuring "heart rate" (measuring goal performance), followed by 5 minutes of "cool down" (more affirmation).
Subjects start with things like figuring out one's financial personality, establishing one's long-term goals, and then a series of "workouts" involving retirement planning/savings, spending, debt reduction, frugality, travel/fun, allowances for children, jobs for kids, college, starting a home business, and giving.
The book essentially marries the metaphor of a physical fitness regimen with standard financial advice, self-discipline techniques, and self-affirmation concepts. The advice is sensible and worth consideration.
A useful resource for those who need structure, guidance, and direction in financial matters.
