a terrific book & amazing story. the true story of THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS, the 1956 movie, based on a book of the same title by the creator of the greatest manipulation of WW II. a corpse was floated ashore in Spain with fake papers which were delivered to Hitler who ordered that the Germans switch their troops from Sicily to Greece & Sardinia, allowing the allies to successfully invade Sicily.

This is the fun history. It starts with a metaphor about trout fishing and carries that one all the way through the book. The story of the British intelligence apparatus "appropriating" a corpse, making up a life story for it, filling its pockets with "wallet litter" to back up that story (theater ticket stubs, love letters from imaginary fiance, etc.), then floating it off the Spanish coast...more
