SO much fun -- I read the next two in the series and can't stop. Appeals to mystery lovers, and lovers of wit and womanly wisdom.

I've read this whole series. It's not a typical detective book, in fact, I don't really like detective books. When I pick up one of the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency books (there are currently 10, maybe 11), I feel as if I am visiting an old friend who likes to solve problems for others and hearing about her latest adventures. Love these books!

The first chapter didn't pull me in immediately, but I gave the book a second chance, and I'm glad I did. After chapter 2, I was hooked. I want to find the next book in the series.

I love this series. I think Alexandar McCall Smith writes about Precious Ramwotse in a very charming way. But I also enjoy reading stories where the main character is smart, strong and clever African woman being a detective instead of usual stereotypical situations Africa characters are portrayed (war, famine, abuse, HIV, etc).

This was recommended to me by my mother, an avid reader and really smart lady. I honestly just didn't love it. I read it several years ago so I don't remember much about it (which also says something) but I just felt underwhelmed in both the story and the interest in the characters. I also seem to recall finding it a bit far reaching at times.

As an editor, this book bugged me. It sets up with the outer framework of this woman and her detective agency, then suddenly shifts gears into a first-person account of her father's life, then goes into a third-person continuation of her father's life and her childhood. I found it very disjointing. Then there was a large character continuity problem--Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni is described both as never...more

This is certainly a trip to her world and the place where she set up the agency! I felt like having a tea with her each time i turned a page!

Fun, quick book to read. I liked reading it more when I thought it was written by a woman, after finding out the author was man I felt a bit played. Enjoyed the dialogue, I'm hoping it was authentic. Also enjoyed the short story style of the book, with the mini misterys being solved along the way.
