I saw the movie right after I read this book. Movie was cute and book was okay. I didn't know the French dishes that were mentioned in the book, so couldn't really relate. Book was chronological and more fact-based than reflective and emotional. However, it gave a good overview of how Julia Child got into French cooking and of the development of her cookbook.

I loved this book! If you have an affection for Julia Child, if you are a foodie, if you love France, this is a great read for you! Beware, it will make you hungry and want to visit France (or revisit!).

A very well written book - as told by Julia Child to her nephew. Not only was her story fascinating, but her memory of the details of this part of her life is incredible. Loved the book! Certainly inspirational for those of us who might not have found our life's work!

Loved this book and truly a great read on Julia's life in France, mostly in Paris. She is an awesome lady and would love to have dinner with someone like her! Love Julia's memoir about her life as a wife, French chef, sister, daughter and as friend. She really showed everyone how life can be so colorful if one knows what they want. Excellent book and easy to read.

What an interesting life, and Julia Child was always positive and looking forward. Also a testament for a happy marriage. Now I've borrowed her cookbook from the library...we'll see how I do with that!

The best word I have to describe this book is Delightful! It gave me a great sense of this magnificent and charming woman. Having lived in France, I could relate to the joy of her experiences with the country, its people, and its cuisine. I don't cook much, but I love food and was thoroughly engrossed in her tales.

Overall, it’s a sweet story and you gain a real insight to the ups and downs of Julia's beginnings. It’s a bit weighed down with inconsequential details and can be considered self-indulgent at times, but if anyone can get away with being self-indulgent, it’s Julia Child—the loveable character generations of Americans have fallen in love with.
