I was disappointed in this story. It had all the makings of a good read but the characters never really tied together. The author moved from character to character, never delving too deeply, moving to the next to quickly and never tying it in to one solid story. I was actually glad to finish and move on to another book.

Such a great lesson on perspective...everyone views a situation from their own reality, and intentions are so often misunderstood.

Growing up spending my summers in Maine with 3 generations of women, I definitely connected with this book. But, my overall impression was that it was sad and depressing -- every family has issues but this one seemed it might not ever be able to work through them. Very well written and engaging but I just kept wanting something nice to happen for them.

I heard that this one was the "Best Beach Read of the Summer", so I had to grab it. While it definitely features a beach, (Maine no less, which only convinced me even further that I must visit that beautiful state someday), it doesn't necessarily fit my own personal definition of a beach read. I think of beach read as something light, something very easy to read, maybe something more "chick-lit"....more

Good enough for a beach read. But incredibly predictable story of a dsyfunctional family at the beach....oh wait, maybe I just know a little too much about that.

If you grew up in a family laced with good old fashioned Catholic guilt, alcoholism, sibling rivalry and all the drama of family members being played as pawns against each other by the family matriarch, then Maine will strike a chord. While I enjoyed the book, it certainly wasn't a happy beach read, and I felt as if some of points weren't well made and some of the loose ends were left untied.

I enjoyed this book straight through untilthe last few pages. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and the setting was well created and accurate. I became quite attached to the characters, in fact, and looked forward to some form of resolution for them, but the ending let me down. It is a good beach read, and I won't say I regret taking hte time to read it, but it won't be on my reread...more

Just finished this wonderful novel and I highly recommend it to my female friends. It was so good, I hated for it to end. I want to know more. About the Book "Three generations of women converge on the family beach house in this wickedly funny, emotionally resonant story of live and dysfunction... By turns uproarious and achingly sad, Maine unveils the sibling rivalry, alcoholism, social...more
