I read THE WAY THROUGH DOORS and loved it. I was expecting the same improvisational plot, the same obliquely drawn characters in THE CURFEW -- which it mostly delivers on. The first book reminded me of the best in Murakami's work, this way M. has of probing real-world issues (mortality, infidelity, etc.) with scenes bordering on the supernatural. What a totally strange and wonderful little book. It's part love story, part fable, part speculative fiction, part children's fantasy.
