Honest, enlightening, challenging, refreshing, fun, unassuming, healing, thought-provoking, real...I could go on and on. Rob Bell has written a much-needed book in Sex God which sheds a lot of light on one of the most basic and relevant topics that has long been 'taboo' in many Christian circles. THis is one of the best books I have read, and certainly one of the most applicable and impacting. I would challenge everyone to read this at some point. At the very least it will challenge you to view sexuality, spirituality, relationships, and God in a new or perhaps more refined light.   hide

Rob Bell portrays his views on sex and what it has to do with our spritualaity. This is not the typical Good Christians don't get giggy wid it til you are married but rather challenges people to wait for someone who they would lay down there life for. Rob is an amazing writer and it is easy to read. This book is amazing

I love the way he brings such helpful application to the text of the Bible, often in ways that I have never before considered. His "emergent church" influences are obvious to see though, and I found the constant appeals to feelings, emotions and moving stories a bit much. He writes to a generation of touchy-feely Christians, many of whom would do better by being less emotionally driven, and more focussed on the core truths of the Bible.   hide

Awesome book... I couldn't put it down once I got started. Rob Bell really has fresh perspective things. God has given him an amazing gift of sharing it to the world. One of my favorite parts of the book is in Chapter 6 when he discussed being submissive. This is something has always made me a bit uncomfortable, particularly because it was always presented as "The woman should submit to her husband... blah blah" end of story. However, Rob Bell's explaination of the scripture really helped me to understand how submission is meant to be a mutual aspect of any relationship. Ephesians 5:21 - 33 This I like: " So the husband is commanded to lay down his life hfor is wife, and the wife is commanded to submit to her husband, but they're both commanded to submit to each other because everyone is comanded to submit to everyone else, and all of this is out of the "REVERENCE FOR CHRIST"." I didn't read very much of this. Perhaps a few chapters since they were small but still enough. It didn't seem like anything new that I hadn't heard from in other books. The hermeneutics of the book was a bit scary at times and a few assertions about truth were made which were also concerning. But most of all, I was just beyond reading it. It seemed like a book suitable for a young teenager.

I wish that everyone would read this book. Really, and not to validate my opinion on it, but in the hope that we might start having real, enlightened discussions about human nature, the meaning of existence, and the value of community in the human experience. Really, and not to validate my opinion on it, but in the hope that we might start having real, enlightened discussions about human nature, the meaning of existence, and the value of community in the human experience. The book is more about God, humanity, love and relationships, and hope than it is focused on what we typically think of as sexuality. I thought this book was okay. It wasn't really what I expected. I expected it to be a lot more about sex; it wasn't. The connection between God and sex/relationships was very interesting though.
