It shows his very human ego, while also doing homage to the fact that he truly was dedicated to his calling. Love him, hate him, idealize him or vilify him, we wouldn't be who we are without him, and so while this book is distinctly unflattering, it shows the evolution of the Beast as a flesh and blood man, a product of his age trying to usher in a New Aeon.
