more This is a posthumous work through the collation of earlier manuscripts of Ludlum. The main character was an intelligence officer involved in the investigation of a secret organization. It seemingly was able to connect to all kinds of criminal and government bodies. It turned out the organization was headed by the Bancroft foundation, with its chairman having a misguided philanthropy and altruistic goal of righting the ‘wrongs’ around the world. Through pre-emptive actions and modelling outcome for acceptable casualty losses, the organization ousted perceived malevolent elements in business and political arenas around the world. The lead character, together with a new member of the Bancroft foundation, was able to penetrate the organization.
A nice touch to the story was that the seemingly nemesis of the organization turned out to be a crucial element in helping the lead characters. I like the character of the son of the chairman, who added a twist with his ability to see through the wrongness of his father’s actions.
