I thought this was a great book detailing the experience of soldiers and the losses we have incurred as a whole in this war.  This story is very well told without preaching one view or another.

 David Finkel takes us through the lives of Soldiers from a unit in Iraq War and gives in an honest/indepth look into what they go through every single day and sheds light on how a War can change the lives of soldiers and their families forever. The reason this war is different from others is in the fact the enemy is hiding and it's not a one-on-one battle, which leads to a constant fear among soldiers as they could be killed while they are out filling gas/trying to help a kid near a trash pile. I recommend this book for anyone who is trying to understand what really happens/happened in Iraq and how lives of soldiers have been destroyed forever.   hide

Phenomenal and gut-wrenching.  Most of the time depressing with glimmers of hope both from the perspective of the soldiers and the Iraqis.

For many of us, the war in Iraq is something they talk about in the news; a political issue. But for the soldiers that our government sent there, and the good Iraqi people caught in this nightmare, it is something else entirely. Read this book if you want to see how it is. This is not an apology for the Army, it is a chronicle of a war that only 1% of us has actually seen up close and personal.
