The best anthology of short horror fiction I have yet to come across, The Dark Descent reads very much like a textbook of the horror cannon. Much of the work featured has been missing from republication for some time, and the vast majority of the stories included are masterpieces that stand on their own. There is no filler here, no attempt to "lighten the mood" with standard comedy pieces. A lengthy explanation for each story, as well as a thorough introduction to each author, is included. You will be very hard pressed to find a more literary collection of horror. Recommended to everyone who reads.   hide
