A genuinely disturbing book. Simmons has an eye for the scene and snap-shot that show the superorganism in full. The goddess of schreklickeit couldn't ask for a better tribute.
Suggested to me by hubby. He was right...it was awesome. Vivid descriptions of Calcutta. Errie as hell. And who doesn't admire the goddess Kali? She works her magic on the protagonist and he is forever changed.
Very creepy. Dan Simmons is an amazingly versatile writer. Although I've never been to Calcutta, and therefore can't necessarily vouch for the accuracy of the portrayal, the book gave me a very clear sense of the place.
