Fourth book in the Taita series, and while it's not quite up to the jaw-dropping standards I have come to expect from Smith (without doubt one of my favourite authors) it continues the Taita saga with his usual style and innate ability to put you right there next to his characters. I would strongly reccomend reading the first 3 in this series before embarking on The Quest (River God, Seventh...more

A great read, Wilbur Smith is a great author with a very rich imagination. This book is a must read for his fans.

Having read the other three books based on this character and time in history, I was looking forward to reading this. For me though it turned into a dragging story with a few points of action. It took me a long time to get into the book and then took me a long time to finsh it. Certainly not his best. Is WS turning into the original old perv ? There were more "pert" noses, lips, breasts and bums than all of his others combined- and don't even mention eyes !! I love romance - but really !! He only scores 2 cos he's a fellow South African......
