Stephenie Meyer's breathtaking ending to her "Twilight" saga is crazy amazing and totally unlike what I thought it would be. Meyers pushes her characters and plot to the maximum extreme. There is some very disturbing, yet fascinating content...it definitely is not for the younger audience of readers. Heck, I'm 18 and I could barely stomach some of the images Meyers put in the book. She appears to have overcome some of her anti-sci-fi attitude as there are some elements in "Breaking Dawn" some have referred to as a being akin to a "weird gothic soap opera." Other criticism of the book is: Edward and Bella do not have as many verbal spats; "Renesmee" is a weird name and a weird plot twist; the ending battle was anti-climatic; etc. It was these elements and more that I believe to have created such aversion for the book from many fans. To all this, I completely disagree: while it is true that Edward and Bella don't have as many verbal spats, in its stead, we get, amongst other things a physical progression in their relationship...as well as time with other characters; Renesmee , I feel, is a beautiful name: mixture of Renee and Esme...very clever on SM's part...a unique name for a unique child; as a future psychologist, I fully appreciated and enjoyed the mental aspect of the ending battle...at first, I was surprised that there was no further action to it like others, however, in the end I feel SM made the right choice. This book was so highly anticipated that no matter what SM did, it could never satisfy such high levels of expectation. Many who sat there and predicted things for the book, then read it, I've noticed make up a good portion of those who disliked the book. One must go into reading this book with an open mind and be ready to expect the unexpected. SM put all of us through the loop with the twists in the book. It is sad to me that some readers cannot appreciate them...but to each his own. I felt that the way Meyer tied things up were very satisfactory...some criticized it to be a little bit too nicely tied up, but really... does anyone truly want an unhappy ending? You'll laugh. You'll cry. Sometimes you'll wanna laugh and cry. Breaking Dawn = a good time.   hide

Read it, and i so wish the series had ended at Eclipse. Its like reading one of those fanfictions available on internet with almost no plotlines and sick stereotypical characters. It seems that Meyer read so many of those that she herself forgot how her characters behaved (yeah, you guessed it right. Alice is suddenly a shopaholic instead of the spirited supportive friend she used to be, Emmett is no more than a clown and all Edward has to his credit is his "perfect angelic face" ) Why should one have to pay for it then when he can easily open a fanfiction site and read them ? *SPOILERS AHEAD* Loads of crap , bound to make you go "How the hell did that happen" at some places, Meyer's Explanations for the same are inadequate. Characters are butchered right from page 1 . All except Jacob And Carlisle are way out of character.The very essence of E/B 's love that held readers to the saga vanishes and is replaced by something very superficial. And Jacob's imprinting was some sick consolation. In a moment the bond b/w him and Bella is broken. Although i have to admit his narration was much much better compared to Bella's . The biggest disappointment was the anticlimax. Seriously, Building up the tempo for a war for 200 pages and no war... Gah!!!! the part about Reneesme Carli's birth (or however it was spelled, okay now.. who names her daughter that ? If I was Nessie (yeah she's nicknamed after Loch ness monster) , i would have sued my mother for that ) is literally traumatic ...for the reader, ofcourse :P In order to give all character's their happy endings , Meyer took away their souls (pun intended). lets leave it at that The book, is a major disappointment for anyone who loved Twilight for its subtle depth (for now there is nothing subtle and there is absolutely no depth) And for all those who thought that, happy or not, This story deserved a good ending   hide

I started reading the Twilight books after I saw the movie in theaters, and it took me less than five days to get to the last and fourth installment in the saga. Stephenie Meyer wastes no time, rewarding fans in the first section with a sweep-you-off-your-feet wedding followed by an even more beautiful honeymoon. The events that follow in Breaking Dawn, however, have caused fuss and fury among Twi-hards everywhere.

Personally, I see some spots where the novel could have been improved, but they mostly coincide with what I said in my Eclipse review: too much Jacob, too aggressive Bella, and Edward’s too understanding and AMAZING =D. Other common complaints I have heard, however, I do not agree with. I am happy that Bella gets to be a mother—and no, I do not think that it destroyed her and Edward’s relationship! She said herself that it was like “her heart had swelled to twice the size” to fit the love she had for her daughter and for Edward. Renesmee’s character also brings finality to the Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle and gives everyone a heart-warming happily ever after. Yes, Jacob imprints on Bella's daughter, but because imprinting on babies/children had previously been introduced in the series, I didn't find this at all unsettling. All this shouting about pedophilia is a little... intense for what really happens. Jacob makes it clear that it isn't a sexual thing at all while the object the affection is still so young.

I cannot argue that the aborted Volturi battle wasn’t a bit ludicrous, but then again…this is a fairy tale....it's about werewolves and vampires. It is not meant to be realistic. Happy endings are generally part of the package when you read a fairy tale. The Twilight Saga is no different. When I read the last scene of Breaking Dawn, I may be incredibly biased, but I could not have imagined a more beautiful and passionate ending to such a magical love story. Edward and Bella deserve no less.   hide

Her choice to live in Forks, her choice to date a vampire and her choice to be best friends with a wolf, etc. These choices forced her to struggle with future problems that she may encounter, for instance never being able to see Charlie or Renee after the change.This book, however, neatly wraps up all of Bella's choices in a nice bow, and seemingly hands her this perfect gift of life.First, the idea of Bella having a child, when she in many ways is still a child herself, is preposterous. I don't recall in New Moon or Eclipse where Bella says she has to have a child. In some ways, she had a child already: Renee. I thought that part of her choice to become a vampire was that she would be forced to surrender some human moments, and giving birth was one of them.Also, the idea that Jacob has imprinted on Nessie is insulting. We are expected to believe that the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob, which has been brewing since Twilight, was a triangle only because Bella would be the mother to Jacob's heart-mate. So, we are now forced to believe that when Jacob kissed Bella in Eclipse, he was never in love with her, but instead an unborn egg inside of her. So, Bella never had to make a choice after all? She just needed to get knocked up with Edward's child.Lastly, the Volturi conflict was ineffective. Since New Moon we have been led to believe the Volturi's would come after Bella, and that Aro wanted Bella, Alice and Edward at his side. In fact, with the conclusion of the Victoria's newborn army, it seemed that Breaking Dawn would be the Volturi's vs. the Cullen's. Although this is briefly described in a conversation, it never comes to a resolution. In fact, when the Volturi left, I felt that they would be on their way back to Forks in the next century for a show down.Other concerns I have are the following:1.) How did the good doctor, Carlisle, not figure out that Bella needed to drink blood while Nessie was still in the womb? He knew that Nessie was part vampire, because of the ultrasound not registering, how did he miss the blood nutrition?2.) Rosalie and Bella become good friends, but is this a lasting friendship? To me, the friendship was a friendship of convenience and nothing more. Rosalie didn't change, nor did Bella.3.) Bella lacked newborn thirst. This seemed to cheat the vampire system of overcoming the 'vegetarian' adversity.4.) I'm an English teacher, so I'll be picky, but there were many grammar and spelling errors in the book. I can't blame Stephenie Meyer, because as a writer you're often too familiar with your writing and miss the errors, but I do chide her editors and the publisher for not double checking.Maybe my expectations were too high for this novel, but I'm very disappointed with the outcome.   hide

I read Stephenie Meyer’s mega-bestselling Twilight and New Moon last year and then like millions of others, went to see the movie Twilight upon its release. It’s embarrassing to admit as a 45 year old woman, but Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Edward Cullen totally jammed my radar for days afterwards! He truly is supernaturally beautiful as Edward and Kristen Stewart’s uncomfortable, awkward, worried and accident prone, but beautiful Isabella Swan is an equally perfect depiction of Meyer’s “Bella”. The Twilight saga is a world-wide phenomenon (as of February 2009, over 28 million copies had been sold!) that has made author Stephenie Meyer a superstar in her own right and she deserves every bit of her success, as did J. K. Rowling before her. They have both created unforgettable characters that we care about so much that they feel like family and their stories are set against the most magical backdrops imaginable. They transport us out of our dreary, mundane, mortal lives to a place where absolutely ANYTHING can happen and remind us why we have an imagination. I completely understand the appeal of the Twilight series. A contemporary story (inspired by a dream) in which the writing flows effortlessly, the character development is superb and the characters bring to life every human emotion imaginable; in particular, young love and its all-encompassing allure. This is not a vampire/horror novel in the archetypal sense (Meyer’s main vampire characters don’t feed on human blood and live in peace among the humans of Forks, Washington), it’s a romance inspired by classics like Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights. Anyone who is a fan of true love cannot help but be completely mesmerized by Bella & Edward's story. I have to say that my favourite books are Twilight and Breaking Dawn because I am more interested in Bella and Edward than I am in Jacob and New Moon just didn’t have enough Edward in it for my taste. I found the relationship turmoil between Jacob and Bella in Eclipse to be a bit overblown at times and some of the dialogue between them was almost nauseating (I found myself thinking, “If Bella apologizes one more time, I’m going to scream!”) but I understood its importance in the grand scheme of things. I just finished reading Eclipse and while I enjoyed it thoroughly, I couldn’t wait for what I was sure to discover in Breaking Dawn and so I picked it up right away and continued reading. I languished over and savored every chapter of Breaking Dawn, stretching it out for as long as I could. As an adult, I was quite disappointed with the scene in which Bella and Edward finally physically consummate their love as it translated to something you’d see on network television: a passionate kiss, followed by a fade to black and the next morning the couple are in bed together with their clothes on and everything that happened between them is assumed. (I wasn’t surprised to discover that Meyer comes from a Mormon family.) However, the last few chapters were incredibly intense, suspenseful and had me hanging onto every word that was written. I won’t give away the story or its surprises for anyone who hasn’t read it yet but I will say that its elemental themes are love (in all its forms), family, loyalty and living in peace and with tolerance for those who are different from us. If you’re a fan of vampire or werewolf/shapeshifter stories or simply a great, adventurous romance with a huge heart, this series is definitely for you. Most members of the Cullen family are an integral part of the story: Carlisle, Rosalie, Jasper and particularly, Alice who is my favourite character after Edward and Bella. Although Esme and Emmett didn’t play quite as a large a part, you can’t imagine the Cullen family without them. Jacob’s steadfast loyalty, as well as the collective allegiance of his wolf pack (Seth being the most obvious) is equally important. The addition of many different vampire covens from all over the world in Breaking Dawn, added to the intrigue of the tale and the fear of their confrontation with the Volturi ancients was palpable. It seems to me that there is plenty of room for more vampire and werewolf stories where this one concludes and I know I will read every book that Stephenie Meyer writes from now on. I didn’t want Breaking Dawn to end, although it did, and for now, Stephenie Meyer says it’s the last book of the Twilight saga written from Bella’s perspective. She was working on Midnight Sun, which was to be Twilight from Edward’s perspective but, due to an unfortunate leak of a draft copy on the Internet, it remains to be seen whether the book will ever see the light of day. No matter what Stephenie Meyer chooses to write for her next book, it will undoubtedly be another bestseller and although she admits she’s still an amateur writer in her own mind, she should have a very lengthy career in which to evolve into an expert.   hide

Bella the ordinary becomes Bella the incredible surviving a violent and icky birth (great if you want to push safe sex). she is now the adopted daughter to a vampire coven that packs more special skills than the not-so-evil-men-in-black Volturi. her daughter is growing at an alarming rate, the subject of a vampire war and her husband is still gorgeous... but not as sparkly (Meyer back pedals to a "pearly" description). oh what is a teen bride to do? i know! let work on her special powers and hand her daughter off to the ice queen and the dog! WTF?!? a story that started with promise crescendos into a steaming heap of muck. the only break is the somewhat sane change in POV mid book when we see the events through still broken hearted but not coping Jacob's eyes. later he gets over his frail macho ego by imprinting on the newborn. ick. here, again, Meyer backpedals on her "love at first sight" explanation in Eclipse to a less irk inducing "guardian/protector". i'm not sure if Meyer ever really got the gist of outlining or at least bullet points when she drafts. she may have avoided some of the hazier themes if not avoided the George Lucas style explanations of her storyline. or maybe she is just so in love with her characters she is blinded by their own sparkly brilliance. i really wanted to like this one. sadly... a disappointment even harder than Eclipse. the only positive thing i can say is that she writes a better Jacob than Bella.   hide

This book starts with what left behind of Eclipse and it’s divided into three parts. The first part, told from the point of view of Bella, accounts the wedding of Edward and Bella and their honeymoon in Isle Esme. The third part, back to Bella’s view, accounts her early days as a vampire and the danger that Renesmee(the daughter she has with Edward) put the family in and the conflict with the Volturi. From the moment I start reading this book, I’ve been searching for clues etc on the reconciliation of the triangular relationship as the third book did left me heartbroken in a way for Jacob. You can see the gradual change in the mind of Jacob and how he finally finds peace. The first part is all very fairy-tale like with all the wedding and stuff and the first sexual encounter of Bella and Edward. Bella seems like a mature girl apart from the fact that in Eclipse she kind of keeps changing her “deadline” and “terms of conditions” for becoming an immortal. However, in the first part of the book, she becomes this pretty desperate girl always asking for more physical contact from her newly wed husband, which is a bit over the top. Edward, having discovered their first sexual experience results in bruises all over her body, refuses for more until she becomes an immortal. And of course he has to “give in” in the end. Well, you can imagine the consequence of ‘non-safe” sex which leads to the second part of the book. The second part is told from Jacob’s point of view and whole tone or language is different. From Jacob’s angle, you can see the love both Edward and Bella has towards each other which also makes him realize that he should move on. The account of the whole pregnancy is quite horrific, as the baby grows in the speed of light and Bella has to start ‘drinking blood’ to feed the baby. The final chapter for this part is more or less like the script of ER with Edward delivering the baby and Jacob giving Bella CPR!! And in the third part, you will find out that Bella, who nearly died during the childbirth, has survived as Edward gives her his venom in the last minute and turned into a vampire. The first few chapters account how Bella adjusts to this new life, which surprisingly is not as bad as it was expected. On the other hand, it shows how the triangular relationship develops and has indeed an interesting outcome. Having imprinted on her daughter, Bella can finally release herself from the guilt she felt for Jacob and Jacob can also “move on” with his life with Renesmee in mind. When I read to this, it does sound odd to me and it takes time to take it in. However, you may remember in New Moon, Quil imprinted on a 2 year old-so it’s not so strange after all, and besides, we do live in a strange world nowadays. This kind of takes the Bella-Jacob relationship into a new stage as he becomes her true (probably only human) friend whom she can still be close to, ignoring the potential ‘son-in-law’ issue!! It drags a bit for this part of the story but what comes next is quite exciting. Again, remember back in New Moon, Laurent, who developed a close relationship with Irina from the Denali coven, was killed by the wolf pack. Irina, comes to try to make peace with the Cullen but she sees Renesmee and believes she is an immortal child, a human child turned into a vampire-this is forbidden within the community. She reports this to the Volturi who then decide to come and punish the Cullens. In order to convict the Volturi that Renesmee is not one, they gather all the friends they can find as witnesses as Renesmee has this special gift of transmitting memory and thoughts. Their friends are all taken by surprise and become warmed to her. On the other hand, there is a slight twist to the story, Alice and Jasper disappeared which is a mystery that is only revealed in the most crucial moment. The Cullens, along with their alliance-the werewolves, not entirely sure that they will win this battle, are all prepared to die and so as their friends. As their friends gathering in their place, they slowly come to the conclusion that the Volturi are coming, not for the punishment, but to get all the gifted Cullens especially Alice to join them. The whole court of the Volturi finally arrive and at the crucial moment, Alice and Jasper appear with additional proof. They bring with them a 150 years old half-human/half-vampire Nahuel who explains that the half-breed poses no danger to them. The Volturi finally leave them in peace. This is probably not so much as a page turner as the first three books but it ties up some of the loose ends from previous books and a good ending or happy ever after is probably what many of the fans want. I know it may just be too perfect but that is probably what we want in our imagination. And seriously I do like the last chapter very much especially on the part where Bella, having obtained this gift of putting on a shield, manages to push it off, so that Edward can read her thought and understand how much she loves him. Last, but not the least, I think Stephanie is very clever in a way that she has put some clues in the end which will be useful if she decides to go back on them again. Will Renesmee choose Nahuel instead after 6 years when she grows up? Will Jacob be heartbroken yet again? Will Volturi recover after this encounter and come back again to revenge? I do sincerely hope that we will get answers to these in the near future!!   hide

Reading the TWILIGHT SAGA (so called by the series publisher) is the literary equivalent of an all night-bender on bottom-shelf gut-rot gin: it's a cheap thrill, but tastes horrible going down and makes you feel like crap the next day. This attempt at Gothic fiction is cobbled together through a series of ham-fisted cliches, a slavish dedication to patriarchy, and the imagination of an author who doesn't really grasp the genre. The Gothic novel was developed in the nineteenth century by mainly women authors including Mary Shelley, Ann Radcliffe, Charlotte Bronte, and even Jane Austen as a metaphorical means of engaging and subverting taboo subjects such as sex and gender roles while exploring questions of human existence and death. This genre was brought into the twentieth century through well-crafted narratives by the likes of Anne Rice and Margaret Atwood. Such artful, more contemporary novels put an existential spin on traditional Gothic modes and keep the genre relevant. That said, Meyers misses the mark completely. While she creates a vivid world of vampires and werewolves, her characters and story lack the complexity and subversion necessary to make true Gothic fiction. A really great vampire novel asks the question: What happens in a life that never ends? The question of immortality must be broached and engaged because it is one of the central questions of human existence. Without these elements, her story descends into the world of tawdry romance novels, rife with rape-fantasies and patriarchal control of women, but without what makes a tawdry romance novel enjoyable: steamy sex scenes. While the TWILIGHT SAGA plods on for four, long novels, the banal content centers mainly around the improbable love-triangle between Bella (a human), Edward (a vampire), and Jacob (a werewolf). A love triangle can be an effective and intriguing convention, but not when the desired object of affection (in this case Bella) makes her decision in the first novel. Bella also has the unquenchable desire to become a vampire and willingly will toss aside her humanity in order to live forever, be eternally young and beautiful, and have access to power and money. The decision is easy, but it shouldn't be. Bella never really questions the cost of what giving up a human soul might be and, therefore, the books read more like a teen-wish-fulfillment fantasy than anything else. Bella always chooses Edward who can offer her endless power and whatever else she wants, while Jacob, a mere werewolf can only give her a life with a supportive family and the room to be herself. So, for over 2,000 more pages of pointless contrivances, Jacob is a feeble impediment between the two central lovers. The resolution to this relationship is weak and improbable, as is the resolution to the story's main subplot revolving around various covens of vampires. As the saga builds to an intriguing climax, promising a bad-ass battle between a bunch of powerful, supernatural beings, a rather clunky deus-ex-machina enters the scene and completely deflates the action and the story returns to an unsatisfying happily-ever-after close.   hide

I knew something would happen during the honeymoon; and frankly, I was excited it was this.There are some people out there that say this: "It is impossible for a mother to change from someone caring more about herself, than all of a sudden, it's the baby and no one else." How is that impossible? And besides, hasn't Stephanie Meyer showed us in her books that the impossible is damn possible? She takes a klutz for a girl, and a self-loathing male-vampy, and makes them fall in love, and through endless trauma, and drama, the love is stronger... any other relationship that would endure some of the things they endured (Like a crazy bitch wanting you deadx2) would not last.The books shortened ending was the most upset out of the entire book. I was hoping there to be more than just a mere "our apologize to the cullens... we came on false blahblahblah" fuck, I was hoping for some blood and guts...Anyways, that was my only complaint, as far as that goes.Now on to the characters,Like my friend Shana, I was glad to have read the ego-vampy Emmett had finally got told off by Bella's strength. That made me laugh.Alice shocked me out of all the characters. I was so upset when she ran, I was pissed off at her for being a chicken, and running away when her family needed her the most. The clues she left for Bella were so riddled that she took the biggest chance for even hoping Bella would understand them. I sure as hell would not have if I were in Bella's shoes. I would be too much of a wreck to even consider them as clues. It pissed me off that Alice left Bella without even a clue as to how it was going to play out for Renesmee.Jasper... ah, poor Jasper. He has never been really a Cullen, with his unique talent, and his sort of sideline personality. He was upset with the fact that he couldn't help Bella because Bella was helping herself. I think personally he was hoping to do a little more for the family besides keep them calm. Someone loan him a razor. (lol) No, Jasper happens to be one of my favorite characters because of how I can relate to him. He is such an outsider to his family it was as if he was not meant to be there, but his love for Alice kept him there until his love for the family grew. I feel so different to my family, and to derrick's family, but I grew to love them all... lolJacob... I still don't know what to think about him. I hate him/love him. I'm just glad he didn't try to kill Edward... He would have lost. lol LOSER. xDNow on to my least favorite character... The snobbish bitch Rosalie. Though her character is beautiful, she is ugly. She's never liked Bella, thought Bella to be an idiot, until *knock knock* a chance to be a mommy comes along. Than she's Bella's best friend? Fuck that. That bitch needs a good bitch slap. Granted, she probably did it out of selfishness, she at least did it. meh, I don't think I will ever truly like that bitch... even if she is this beautiful goddess that can last forever in the bedroom (but hey, this is a vampire family, who the hell can't last that long in that family?).Who next? Bella or Edward?I think I will start with the hunk, Edward. In his attempts to protect Bella, he actually damages her more... again. It is safe to say that Edward is stupid at times. Clearly Bella was trying to tell him, "Fuck me again you idiot, don't hate yourself cause your good." not "stop, you're hurting me." God, he can be such a dillweed. However, I love him for his need to keep the woman he was meant to love safe...even if it meant no sex. I felt bad for him when he couldn't control or take control over the whole bella being pregnant situation. It frightened him, as well as me... I didn't want to see the heroin die! But in the end, he loved her more than he's ever loved anyone, or anything.Bella... my favorite character. Now, for awhile I thought she was being a complete fucking retard. Keeping a child that was obviously killing her was moronic... and then... Renesmee was born. A beautiful character in herself as well as her mother. Bella did a fabo job lying to Edward about the pain during the "dying" process, and did an even better job as a newborn. Though I knew there would be no trouble into her change, as it is Bella... The one born to be an old woman before her mother! LOL Bella's character was wonderful in this story because it just showed how much she was willing to give up for other's to survive. And then, learning her shielding powers strong enough to be able to show Edward into her mind... that was beautiful. <3Now Renesmee was beautiful... a great addition to the Cullen family as she was the newest to hold on to the bond even stronger. Yay Renesmee!All in all, I was amazed by the book... It wasn't a let-down to say the least. Stephanie Meyer did an amazing job, and i cannot wait to read anything else she has in store for us, including Midnight Sun!   hide
