Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour An Introduction

This book made me cry so hard. Love it. Love it. Love it.

The problem with this book is in Seymour: An Introduction. It's the bulk of this "collection" and is by large very forgettable. The problem with this book is in Seymour: An Introduction. It's the bulk of this "collection" and is by large very forgettable. There is no real narrative (as it's written in the first person in direct communication with the reader) and I think what Salinger was trying to accomplish could have been done more efficiently (mostly by cutting pages or by making the end resemble the beginning). The first two or three dozen pages are really a chore to read. Raise High the roof Beam, Carpenters is standard Salinger fair, interesting and entertaining. I'd probably enjoy these both a lot more if I had read Banannafish.   hide
