Part bio with some writing experiences/ advice thrown in. Comfortable and quick reading like most of King's work. An interesting and inspiring insight into his writing process and career. Talent plus a huge amount of determination. But also perhaps an example of "the harder I work the luckier I get" adage.

The second half is tips on writing (hence the name), which, despite having a degree in creative writing, has taught me more about what makes a really good writer than those three entire years did. The man is a genius... shame he's gone off a bit in recent years, though the Cell actually was a geniune return to form. WTF was Lisey's Story all about though? Haven't had the heart to read any since then. King fans - have any of them been worth reading since then?   hide

This is the ultimate book for anyone struggling with writer's block or just with lack of confidence in their writing in general. King is a godsend. He helps without being condescending or boring. It is a must-read for an aspiring author.

I'm sure I am not the first to say this. But the best book on writing and process I have read. Some good tips on how to approach 1st and 2nd drafts I found particularly helpful.

Read every waking moment, write all the rest, be persistent, maybe write 2-3 hours on each morning, cut the draft by 10%, don't quit a job that pays the bills, enjoy the process. And lots of other good advice.
