Terry Brooks is a great story teller. The characters he made in the Shannara series are family by the time you finish the book. I reccomend these books to all who love fantasy as I do.

Recently reread this, like 3 weeks ago. Well worth the revisit and I plan on doing the whole series once again in addition to the later chapters I haven't read yet.
