Probably also a sign of Piers Anthony settling into the Incarnations universe. The endless puzzles became annoyingly trite at times (but that's probably inevitable if you read much Piers Anthony) but, again, better than the previous books. Overall, I liked Niobe more than the other protagonists, and I liked reading about her experiences more. Maybe it's just a gender thing.
