Listened to the audiobook.  An interesting in mix of space opera and hard sci-fi. Enjoyable

Science fiction at its best, entertaining to the point of addiction. Set in the distant future, Louis Wu celebrating his 200 birthday is recruited by a rare alien race, a puppeteer, on an expedition to investigate an unusual ring-like structure. A kzin (an aggressive huge cat) and another human also join the expedition.

I really liked this book, and will be seeking the sequels now.

Ringworld, one of the most exciting and inventive concepts that ever came out of any writer's imagination. A group of explorers seeks the secrets of a circular ribbon of matter, 600 million kilometres long and more than 90 million kilometres in radius, surrounding a star in an otherwise deserted solar system.

Unfortunately, what it has in setup and technology it lacks in character development...more

4,5 stars - this one is a classic for a reason! Though written in 1970, Niven's imagination, even technological, seems fresh still today. The book unravels the mystery plot in a good pace, the characters are likeable and their dynamics work very well. The story pleasantly surprises by revealing not only the mysteries of the Ringworld, but also other facts of the world the characters must each...more
 4,5 stars - this one is a classic for a reason! Though written in 1970, Niven's imagination, even technological, seems fresh still today. The book unravels the mystery plot in a good pace, the characters are likeable and their dynamics work very well. The story pleasantly surprises by revealing not only the mysteries of the Ringworld, but also other facts of the world the characters must each relate to. However, to me something small is still seems out of place - perhaps the universe of Ringworld has just a bit too much wonder.   hide

I first read this as a sophmore in high school and became a huge fan.  Recently felt like reading some sci-fi and picked this up at Moes.  shoot 'em up sci-fi, laser swords and manufactured objects the size of earth's orbit.  A lot of fun.

Ringworld is a habitable ring around a sun million km in diameter. This new world has been discovered and the story is about two aliens and two humans exploring the Ringworld.  Part of the story is about a conflict between the alien races. It turn out that the advanced alien race used its power to interfere with the human and the other alien world genetically modifying the inhabitants....more
 Ringworld is a habitable ring around a sun million km in diameter. This new world has been discovered and the story is about two aliens and two humans exploring the Ringworld.  Part of the story is about a conflict between the alien races. It turn out that the advanced alien race used its power to interfere with the human and the other alien world genetically modifying the inhabitants. Interesting is the idea that luckiness can be genetically cultured. The story also covers advanced technology (transportation and tools) and sexual fantasies. The end of the book is abrupt and one got the impression it is unfinished.   hide
