It is a very good story. However, you should know that the movie was not an exact duplicate of the book. Despite that, the author did approve of the movie.
There are some fundamental differences. There exists Mercerism, a pseudo religious sharing of good feelings with the planet thingy, Deckard has a wife, empathy boxes, Zhora is not in the book, the previous war, lack of live animals and it takes places in San Francisco instead of Los Angeles. Despite these differences, I believe the movie still caught the essence of what was being communicated in the book.
In this book and the movie, the emotional content and context of the characters is more the story that the location or props. Like the movie, the book centers on Deckard's struggles as a person and the journey he goes through as he is faced with six Nexus-6 units that come from off-world.
I consider this book a must-read for fans of sci-fi and the movie. The paperback is about 242 pages and can be had for $8 or less. Enjoy! hide
