This book provides an insight into other cultures and some endangered species. It was thoroughly enjoying and I learned alot.

A nice read about endangered species. It was interesting to pick this book up so many years after it was written, when we can see the fruits of the various conservation efforts the book describes. The intriguing kakapo is making a comeback in New Zealand, while the poor Baiji river dolphin has been declared functionally extinct in China. In another 25 years this book might be re-titled...more

Chapter 2 ("Here be Chickens") is one of the most brilliantly written bits of travel journal I've ever encountered.

Easily one of my non-fiction favorites. More well-known for his sci-fi comedy writing, Douglas Adams does a brilliant job of describing a few of earth's extinction-bound treasures. Funny and informative. This is one of the few books I've read more than once. In fact I've read it several times

The first book of the 2009 TeaCups NonFiction year. It was totally awesome. Douglas Adams includes a lot of information about the world and the animals of the world that I had no idea about. And I had never heard of a Kakapo before! Would I recommend it? Yes!

Yes this wacky sci-fi writer also writes an incredible book about the distinction of certain species and the possible extinction of a few more coming soon...

By far one of my favorite books of all time. I laugh outloud when I get to the kestrel named Pink - in fact, it's hard not to get a laugh, while still managing to learn and even cry about the species we are losing around the world.

Really, this is the best book ever. Douglas Adam's great humour combined with honest love to nature and expertise. This is lots of fun to read and lots to learn! If you love nature and Doug Adams humour this is the best book!
