I love McCaffrey's Pern novels and some of her other series have been good.  This book, the beginning of another series, didn't grab me as much.  I think that I felt there was too much fantasy for my liking.  Yes, Pern has dragons and other semi-mythical beings but everything has a scientific explanation.  The science here gets drowned out by the mythology.  Plus, I was really ticked...more
 I love McCaffrey's Pern novels and some of her other series have been good.  This book, the beginning of another series, didn't grab me as much. The science here gets drowned out by the mythology.  Plus, I was really ticked off at the very beginning when the temperatures were given in Farhenheit.  I refuse to believe that this outmoded measurement system will last beyond earth.   hide
