The story was intriguing, I think this was one of the first books to portray vampires as creatures with emotions and feelings. Louis is a vampire that actually feels... sorry and wants to repent for what he's done in his undead life. It was a book with many twists and turns, the constant appearance of the terrifying Lestat who couldn't die. Definitely not for the youth, I think that it'd be too complicated for those younger ones to appreciate the humane behaviour of these vampires and to understand the dark desires of Claudia or Armand.   hide

The long descriptions of Louis's emotions and perceptions are absolutely exhausting. But despite this i could no read it fast enough. I had to take emotional breaks while reading and watch some mindless TV, but then get right back to reading. I became obsessed! I am...more

I just recently read this ( read it all last week). Though it is a great book, this was the most emotionally difficult book to read. I am now into the second book which is great, but doesn't have the feeling that this does. Awesome book!   hide

I read this book when I was 16 and just fell in love with it. I found the vampires'outsider mentality and philosophical struggle to come to terms with what they are really interesting, especially at that age. I went on to read all of her vampire books, and they are just amazing. I would definitely recommend this author if you have an open mind and like to read about wierd stuff.

Maybe, my 'taste' is getting better, or I'm getting bitter. Usually the books are better than the movie but THIS?? "Interview" with the Vampire--it's like a lazy form of writing. I cared for Louis in the beginning but by the end he seemed no different from the other vampires he loathed.

Ou pelo menos era o que eles pensavam, quando fogem para a paris do século 19, aonde Louis encotra Armand, líder do Teatro dos Vampiross e ele finalmente sente esperanças de que encontrou um novo mestre. Mas Lestat por vingança, e o grupo do teatro expoe Claudia ao sol, deixando Louis em eterna melancolia. É o melhor livro de Anne Rice, na minha opinião. A maioria prefere O Vampiro Lestat, mas eu acho esse melhor, tenho um carinho muito especial por ele.   hide

I don't have a great deal to say about this book. I literally trudged through it for the sake of completion and respect for the author. So often Anne Rice is recommended by fantasy fanatics that I was actually really surprised by how unenthusiastic I was about the work. Then again, maybe I'm just a jerk. ;) First off, I didn't really care for the narrative' style. I thought that sometimes the interview format got in the way rather than enhancing the story. That could just be personal preference, though. Beyond that, I felt like the book took forever to really go anywhere. So much time was spent inside Louis' head... which is to be expected, I suppose, given that it's an interview. I didn't fin Louis all that insightful of an individual, though. I felt his metaphors and reasoning were sold to the reader as "divine" but always fell just short of inspirational. The only part of the novel I really enjoyed was a scene in the towers where Armand and Louis are discussing the implications or immortality. Even that conversation wasn't so much philosophical as observant, but at least they were the well grounded observations of an author who had seriously considered the subject matter. All in all, blasphemous as it is to say, I'd advise someone to simply watch the movie rather than read the book. There are a few scenes here and there lost in the screen adaptation, but none of it's really vital. Had I realized how close the two are I probably would have skipped right to "The Vampire Lestat." I do intend to read a bit more of Rice's vampire chronicles in hopes I'll find her other works redeeming. For now I can't stomach another one back to back, though, so I'll move to another author instead.   hide

this book started the pattern of what happened to make you this way story telling and i think its the stories Anne rice writes the best. The story line has interesting twists and turns the characters really shine especially some of the moments of manic insanity in Lestat. Wonderful piece of literature.

Interview with the Vampire is one of the books I've wanted to read for several years. It's a vampire classic, I've seen the movie a couple times and I like the story. And when I first got really obsessed with vampires, both in book form and TV series form, I had to read this one too! Since I started reading this right after I was done reading the Twilight books, I’m unfortunately comparing them. When Twilight was a very easy read, with somewhat bad language and the main focus on describing the feelings, Interview with the Vampire has a more quality feel when it comes to the language and more focus on the story itself and describing the surroundings. This made the book slightly harder to read, and for me rather uninteresting and boring. The story is well written, it has its great moments and I did at times feel sympathy for Louis. But I missed the intensity I felt when reading Twilight. Ok, this is a glum story, with dark overtones, but what about making the glum intense? This is a story as told around a bonfire, quite straight forward and without feelings. I want to be able to relate to the main character and have his feelings in me when reading. To sum it up; It’s a good book, not the best there is, but good enough. It’s just not totally my style.   hide
