It made me think a lot about my own ideals and beliefs about those topics and I felt they really made a lot of sense to me at the time. I know she was inspired a lot by mythology and real real events and I always wondered how she got the ideas for this book, I emailed her but never got a response. I have real all the vampire chronicles and really enjoy the way she writes. I will eventually get around to reading her more recent books just out of curiosity. This book of all her vampire books really goes deep into the religious aspect and really made me think. I was a really good book.   hide

there are people who would probably stone me to death, if i said this book has fostered more in me about the worship of God, than I've learned in all my years of organized religion. it is a work of fiction, true...but it drew such a vivid picture, that i started to think. if you've read marie corelli's sorrows of satan, you may be able to relate to what i mean. anne rice as always, is beyond compare and the merit of this book (for me) is not as much the fact that it tells a story but the fact that the story it tells sows a seed...what you do with that seed is totally up to you!   hide

Though the entirety of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles are in fact amazing reads, I found that this particular volume was the one that sounded most profoundly with me. Rice's depiction of the Devil and God, and Lestat's relation to the both of them is beautifully developed. You find yourself flattered in Lestat's place. Pleased that a character you are so close to is so favored by the dieties...more

I have read every Vampire Chronicle book with great anticipation and this one was no exception. However, instead of anticipating the next chapter I often found myself zoning out on some of the more crucial moments of the plot. This book seems to me, to be the first in the fall on the spiral stair case. Rice's own religous views clouded the books potential and in many ways ruined it.
