This book is one of my favorites. It provides a window into the LSD and biker gang subculture that existed in 1960s and 70s California. Thompson provides great firsthand accounts of what it was like living with the Hell's Angels when their notoriety peaked.
Hunter S Thomspon's year-long adventures with the Hell's Angels. This is a good companion read to The Electric Kool-Acid test by Tom Wolfe, which follows a different set of people (Ken Casey and the merry pranksters) during the same years - and in which HST and the Hell's angel make some brief cameo appearances.
A perfect example of Thompson's gonzo journalistic style. He looks at how the Angels rose to fame during the 60's and how that fame affected them. Whilst doing so he unravels many of the misconceptions of the Angels as drinking, drug taking rapists with a penchant for violence and instead presents them to the reader in a different light as he experienced them first hand.
