I love the imagination in this book. The whole concept of this book fascinates me. However it is tough to take how dark humanity can get in this story. Even so, I can't wait to read the rest of the saga.

Very disappointing. Not well written. Silly & illogical plot. Only fair, nowhere near as good as advertised.

at the same time interesting but disturbing, this book is a Science Fiction approach to life after death. For anyone expecting "heaven", this will come as a bit of a shock.

Enjoyed as a concept for an alternate universe. Where else are the conversations of Samuel Clemens and Hermann Goering recorded??? Got a bit indefinite and slow as it proceeded through the later books

Philip José Farmer's multi-volume Riverworld series ignited my imagination like nothing before or since. Altho long and seriously drawn out toward volumes 4 and 5, the fact that a single author could have come up with something like this is nothing short of stunning. This series was sheer scifi brilliance. Don't even attempt to watch the ridiculous mini-series that was on TV. ...more

The first of Farmer's Riverworld Series. Among my favorite concepts in this book (and there are MANY) is the "Suicide Express." Not because I'm suicidal (I most definitely am not), but because, if one believes in reincarnation (I decidedly do not), this is a totally rational pursuit!

Fantastic book, but the series went downhill in the following books. Burton the explorer is one of the main characters and Farmer does him justice.
