more It's been a few years since I read this book, and I still remember it in great detail, which is unusual for me. Macon Leary is an obsessive-compulsive neat-freak travel writer who hates to travel (his schtick is that he writes books for business travellers who also hate to travel, letting them know where they can find a Best Western in London, a Denny's in Tokyo, etc.). After his son is tragically killed, his marriage falls apart. His subsequent relationship with a divorced mom who initially seems totally ill-suited to him is the best odd-couple story in all of literature, for my money.
